Hurricane Ike - Certain Death?

Have we become too familiar with hurricanes? The National Weather Service thinks we're not taking Ike seriously enough. Residents living in single-family homes in some parts of coastal Texas face "certain death" if they do not heed orders to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Ike's arrival, the National Weather Service said Thursday night. Certain death!

The unusually strong wording came in a weather advisory regarding storm surge along the shoreline of Galveston Bay, which could see maximum water levels of 15 to 22 feet, the agency said. "All neighborhoods ... and possibly entire coastal communities ... will be inundated during the period of peak storm tide, " the advisory said. "Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single-family one- or two-story homes will face certain death."

This is not hype!

With a little over 24 hours to landfall, Ike is pushing Gulf Coast water ahead of it like a bulldozer pushing sand. Those on the coast, wherever coast is, have the surge problem. Others have a wind problem. Some will have a tornado problem. Let's face it, hurricanes of whatever size or intensity, are problems for many people. Beyond disrupting life for a few days, hurricanes can change a person's destiny- in many ways.

"Things" which people have worked for all of their lives can be taken away in a few moments. But on the other hand, priorities can be changed that will take people in directions that they would not have otherwise gone. So as millions hunker down and another million evacuate, fate begins dealing the cards and we all have to play the hand we're dealt.

As a spiritual-futurist, I interpret current events in light of possible macro-universal forces at play leading up to 2012, but not limited to it.

Pray for our city and help if you can?
This isn't really a question but if anyone has been watching the news, CNN, CBS, ABC..and so on you have seen Minot, North Dakota in the fight of it's life against a rising river. The mouse river (souris river) has successfully overtopped some of our dikes and has risen over our levees. Due to an abnormal amount of rainfall, and snow melting Canada had to open their raffaraty-almeida dam. It goes to our Lake Darling Dam and for the first time ever we had to open the flood gates or the dam could break. Our levees hold 1555/cfs of water, and the new prediciton from the corps of engineers and the national weather service is---1564.5/cfs of water will be the crest. That's 10 feet over what our levees can hold. 12,000 people were evacuated, and countless homes have already been lost. President Obama has declared counties in ND a national disaster. Minot has 40,000 people including the airbase and over 1/3 of the residents WILL lose their homes. The national guard is still working on building up dikes to try and keep two of our main roads open without them there is no connection between north and south as the whole valley is flooding (which is in the middle) This is an amazing community and even in times of despair and desperation we are sticking together as we watch our city drown. I would never ask for money on here but we do have a website www.minotredcross.org anything can help. Even prayers. You can also follow all of this on facebook if you type in kxnews minot. Thank you. It's not whining, and to show that you honestly could care less about people is horrible. If you live in the united states, remember this isn't just 12,000 north dakotans, this is 12,000 americans. We're supposed to stand by eachother. And I'm not in an evacuation zone and I can sit here not be worried about flooding and still lend a hand. Show you have compassion as a human being.

0bama fear-mongers during debt-limit speech, then says he's NOT engaging in scare tactics? Your opinion?
"If we do not have revenues, that means there are a bunch of kids out there who do not have college scholarships. [It] might compromise the National Weather Services. It means we might not be funding critical medical research. It means food inspection might be compromised." -- 0bama, June 29, 2011 "I am not engaging in scare tactics." -- 0bama, June 29, 2011
